In the early history of the Handicraft Club, members Amey Vernon and Marion Perkins were miniature artists.
Tynietoy was the brainchild of Miss Perkins, an interior designer, who began to wonder during World War I what children would do without the imported toys from abroad that were so readily available before the war. They were later joined by Sydney Burleigh, who suggested introducing doll houses as well. Furniture was designed in the style of Sheraton, Hepplewhite, and Early American. Some of the pieces were copied from examples in the Pendleton Collection at the Rhode Island School of Design
Currently, the Handicraft Club houses a Tynietoy Mansion complete with furniture, dolls, and garden decorations.
Pieces are often donated to the collection by our members, with the most recent being two chairs donated by longtime member Hope Alswang.
