Whiteline Woodblock Printing

This class will teach students about Whiteline Woodblock Printing, a technique that creates multiple images using simple tools and without a printing press.  This 110-year-old art form was developed in Provincetown, Massachusetts by a group of women artists who were interested in Japanese Woodblock printing, but dismayed by the multi-block process.  Students will learn about the history of the craft, along with tools, printing, and how to develop images for printing. No printing experience is necessary. Newcomers welcomed!

Tuesdays, 10 Weeks, 09/19 – 11/28, 2023

12:30 – 3:30 PM

Materials students need to purchase/bring: 

1. Pencil and eraser.
2. Fine-line ballpoint pen.
3. Metal ruler.
4. Notebook for taking notes on process and ideas.
5. Push pins or thumbtacks (at least five).

You may also want a compass, a circle template, and square template, but these are not required.

Beginner’s Kit Fee: $75 (payable to the instructor; includes Shina plywood, Arches cover stock paper, gouge and honing tool)
