Machine Sewing Basics and Guided
Personal Projects with Caroline Silverman (W25)

Enrollment for 8-week classes in Winter 2025 is not available at this time as we gather class lists for instructors. Please call the Education Manager, Rebecca Siemering at (401) 831-8339 if you would like to enroll in an 8-week class. Members who have signed up for winter courses before December 12  will be informed next week if their class is running.

This introduction to machine sewing will teach participants how to use a sewing machine with confidence. Instructor Caroline Silverman will go over how to set up a sewing machine, teach you how to sew, and introduce some helpful tips and tricks to ease your use of the machine! Each week will build on previous sessions to explore several types of stitches, seams and techniques to help bring your sewing projects to life. Students are also encouraged to come with the idea in mind of a project that they would like to work toward–these can be partially finished projects, or beginning from scratch!

For those who have taken the course before or are more intermediate sewers, you are also invited to enroll for guided project time where you can bring your own project that you are working on for dedicated time to work on it, and hands on assistance from Caroline. Please feel free to contact Caroline if you have any questions relating to your project or scope of what you have planned.

Materials provided: Caroline will have the following tools: rotary cutter, rulers, and specialty tools to test, but students will be working mostly with their own materials.

Time change: Mondays, 8 weeks,01/06 – 02/24, 2025

9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Students must bring from home or purchase these materials for the class: If you have a sewing machine that you would like to work on, please bring it.
