Natural Dyeing at ProChem
with Suzi Ballenger (W25)

Plants offer a beautiful variety of earth tones when turned into dye and applied to fibers.  Spend the day in the industrial kitchen at Pro Chemical and Dye in Fall River and create color and pattern on silk and wool scarves using seasonal and natural plants – just in time for early spring.

We will use marigold and peach bark collected from instructor Suzi Ballenger’s garden, brazilwood collected from a violin maker, and organic indigo as a beginning color palette. Using the traditional Japanese Shibori techniques itajime, arashi, kumo, and ne-maki, we will spend the day making and learning!
