Drawing is the foundation for all art. Understanding how to see an object and successfully render it with line is a valuable skill for painters, decorative painters and artists of all kinds. Beginning and advanced students are welcome to explore drawing in an inspiring and supportive setting. Each week students will solve a new drawing problem, using a variety of surfaces (gessoed paper, black paper, newsprint) and a variety of drawing mediums (charcoal, chalk, bamboo brushes and India ink). Beginning students will learn the fundamentals of contour drawing, how to create light and shadow, recognize negative shapes, and design effective compositions. Lessons include drawing without looking, copying master drawings, quick drawings done in several minutes and longer and more polished studies. Still life arrangements will be set up to ensure an interesting and challenging subject for all levels.
